Margorie Torturo, 71, has been a Downtown Fullerton resident for 15 years but her roots are in Yonkers, New York. Even though she has resided in Orange County for 40 years her thick New York accent gives her away as soon as you hear her speak. Margie, as her friends call her, is a very active Grandmother with 4 teenage Grandsons and is the personal cook for the Parish Priests at St. Juliana’s Catholic Church in Fullerton. In fact, Marge has been cooking up home-cooked meals for longer than she could remember. Anyone and everyone who knows Marge, knows that her cooking surpasses most. But because of this, her standards on taste are especially high and you can expect her critique whenever and wherever she dines out.
“Perfect Eggs,” is exactly how Margie described her over-easy eggs she ordered at The Brownstone Café, located in The historic Villa
Del Sol in Downtown Fullerton. Actually, she ordered them “over-lite, because that’s how we say it back east,” she explained. “This is exactly how I make them at home!” Nope, you can’t fool this New Yorker!
The Brownstone Cafe is a pleasant hidden gem in Fullerton. I’ve been there for both lunch and breakfast and everything I’ve ordered has been fresh and plentiful. On my last visit for lunch we were treated like royalty. We sat out by the fountain and as the sun moved, our friendly manager came over and moved the umbrella for us, without us even asking. The wait staff is friendly and attentive which makes the dining experience even better!
Yes their prices have gone up a bit from the early days but the portions are just as large as ever.
If you want fresh food and a very tranquil atmosphere this is the place for you.
